God has not been very subtle is His pushing us forward with regards to the boys ministry. But the way that he led us to the land for the facility was over the top.
I (Brock) was sitting at my computer working on the vision statement for the Boys Academy when I heard a knock at the door. An older gentleman, Carmelo, politely introduced himself and then asked “I was wondering if you would be interested in buying any land in Buena Vista?”.
Some background… we live in Magdalena, about 3 miles from Buena Vista. At this point, we had never told anyone we were looking for land. In addition, we had never been contacted by anyone asking us if we may be interested in buying their land. In other words, this was weird…
So, I asked him why he might think we’d be interested. He said he lives next door to our friends Johanna and Byron, and he had been talking to them about needing to sell their land. Because we work in the village of Buena Vista, they recommended asking us. So…. we went to see the land.
When we pulled up to the area and parked, Carmelo said “that’s it.” Kerrie and I looked at each other in disbelief. It was the acre of property directly across the street from the community center, basketball courts, and playground that we had built through the help of friends and donors. I have literally looked at this property dozens of times and wondered who owns it.
For the purposes of the Sports Academy, the land is perfect. It has the basketball & soccer court across the street, and the full size outdoor soccer field directly below. And just as a bonus, the property is at the top of Buena Vista, with a beautiful mountaintop view of Guatemala.
Here's the best part. As if to cement the “leading”, God would have it that when I returned to my computer I realized what I had been typing when I was interrupted by the knock at the door. I was literally typing the following: “we are currently looking for land in Buena Vista to build the facility…”
Is God cool or what.
